"Haegiwa" is the most particular work of Yuko Kitajima. The "beauty" of bijin-ga, the intense fetishism that asks where the roots reside, and the elegant expression that makes it stand out. With the theme of "making fetish elegant", she explores the possibility of a unique beauty painting that can be realized without drawing a face. The subtitle this time is "Obsession". It has meanings such as "attachment, obsession, delusion, addiction, stiffness, and eccentricity". Is incorporated into the work as an Obsession unique to Mr. Kitajima.
[Comment]
The painting materials are ink, whitewash, earthen paint, mineral pigments, acrylic, pastel, etc. Most of the subjects are female figures, but I think that the depiction of Haegiwa is as relentless as possible. Her most primitive and intense motive for drawing her soothing tension when braiding her younger sister's hair, the contrast between her white scalp and fine black hair, was truly beautiful from her heart. It has become. Then, when trying to draw a woman's poetic sentiment that is difficult to grasp, such as fog and smoke, she often draws on the facial expressions and textures of the costumes and decorations worn by the person. Her clothing decoration covers the skin but sometimes exposes the inside. She wants to depict what she loves, but she thinks that drawing a figure that has something to do with it is an eternal theme, and it is also about liberating and forgiving herself. (Yuko Kitajima)
