KASHIMA ARTS

Kajima Bijutsu (Kyobashi, Tokyo) will hold the Abe Yasuto exhibition "Yaki Bizen - Speaking Momoyama Tea Ceramics Bizen" from December 2nd (Saturday) to December 10th (Sunday), 2023.

In this exhibition, you can enjoy Yasuto's diverse expressions, including his ``Painted Bizen'', which can be said to be the true essence of Yasuto, as well as deep and classic Bizen ware and oil paintings.

Yasuhito Abe, a master of Bizen ware, began his career as a writer in 1959 by studying under Saburo Miyamoto, a Western painter representing the Showa era.

While actively engaged in activities such as holding solo exhibitions, in 1972 (Showa 47), at the age of 34, he entered the path of ceramic art, and since then began searching for new forms of expression.
Yasuto's inquisitive spirit and pursuit of pottery-making techniques during the Momoyama period went beyond simply inheriting the classics and led to new possibilities for Bizen ware.

Abe Yasuto's representative series ``Saishoku Bizen'', which is richly colored in red, blue, yellow, and green, was created using Yasuto's unique techniques called ``three-point development'' and ``yakiotoshi.'' I am.

Yasuto's works, which have elevated Momoyama tea pottery to modern ceramic art, have been highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally, and are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the United States and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan.

In addition to this "Painted Bizen," this exhibition will feature approximately 50 works, including classic Bizen ware and oil paintings, which are the starting point of his creation. Please enjoy the timeless and rich expression created by Yasuhito Abe.
